Stop Thinking Like A Teenager – Tips To Quit Smoking

It’s Time to Put Your Teenaged Thinking Aside!

Most adults probably get a little taken aback when someone tells them or even implies that they’re thinking like a teenager. As an adult, you want to be taken seriously as a strong, capable, intelligent, mature person who has come far in his or her life since your awkward teen days.

And chances are this is true in so many areas of your life. Take a moment right now to consider all the ways that you’re different – in your thinking, your habits, your values – than you were as a teen.

As an adult, you may not like going to work every day, but you value your job and probably have a better appreciation for hard work than you did as a teenager. Sure, you enjoy being able to wind down after work with some fun and games, but most adults could never spend day after day in front of video game consoles or at the arcade.

And so what does this have to do with you now? What teenaged thinking might you be clinging to today, even as an adult?

For many, the idea of what is “cool” and what is fashionable and stylish, and what makes someone admirable is one that many adults have a hard time letting go of. Think of your first crush in high school, and chances are that person’s memory is still somewhat attractive to you. Think of your favorite movie or TV star, or favorite athlete, and they probably still hold a special place in your heart, even after all these years.

Which is one of the reasons that many people may have such a hard time when it comes to stopping smoking. The majority of people who smoke started when they were just teenagers, or very young. Many did so because they wanted to appear cool or tough, or wanted to fit into a certain crowd.

Now days, there are so many tips on how to stop smoking cigarettes, and even more stop smoking programs, not to mention the medical proof on reasons to stop smoking, that anyone can find help

If this sounds like you, then give this some serious, honest thought. You’ve let go of so many other ways of thinking that you know don’t fit your grown-up, adult life. You’ve made the decision to work hard, to provide for yourself and your family, to take care of yourself and your home. Smoking just doesn’t fit into your life as an adult anymore! So it’s time to let go of that teenaged thinking that smoking is cool, tough, or fashionable – because it just isn’t.

Stop Smoking Programs Tips – Smoking Is Not Cool

What Makes People Think Smoking is Cool?

The question of why people have long thought that smoking is cool is a good one, since most people know by now that smoking is very, very bad for your health – and the health of those around you. So what made this very dangerous habit one that many people equate with being cool, tough, stylish, and fashionable?

Chances are, Hollywood had much to do with this. Think back to the “golden age” of movies and television in the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s, and no doubt most of the major stars you picture were constantly seen holding a cigarette. From James Dean’s slouchy stance in his legendary t-shirt and leather jacket, to Humphrey Bogart and Sean Connery conversing with a smoke dangling from their lips, to Audrey Hepburn making the cigarette holder a fashion staple from her role in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” cigarettes were as popular as hairspray.

But the real question about cigarettes and “cool” is what makes you think they’re this way. Do you personally find smoking to be fashionable, fun, stylish, tough, and anything else admirable?

There’s a reason that the FCC placed major restrictions on the depiction of cigarette smoking on television and most movie producers followed suit. Many of these people realized soon enough that smoking is not cool, it’s not tough, it’s not admirable and fashionable – at least, the effects of smoking certainly aren’t! There’s nothing stylish about an iron lung, there’s nothing cool about hacking up a piece of your lung every time you try to laugh.

So now is the time for you to step back and give some serious consideration to your own thoughts and views about smoking and perhaps investigate ways to stop smoking. Sure, you may equate it with your past screen idol or you might assume that other people admire you and your two-pack-a-day habit, but isn’t it time to seriously think about where smoking fits into your life right now? Isn’t it time to realize that while Hollywood may have fed the American public a lot of imagery and imagination “way back when,” that even they have gotten on the anti-smoking bandwagon?

Only by giving some serious thought about why you think smoking is not only acceptable but tough and admirable will you then be able to take the next step toward finally being able to walk away from this rather un-cool habit.
